The longer I wear them people quit making fun of them and start to appreciate them more. I have a feeling that they only jested about them because five fingers aren’t the “norm”.

The reactions people have to mine are exactly the same. I love the stare, and I make eye contact with those people in an attempt to invite them to talk to me about them. Mostly though, I get really good responses. A lady today at lunch who looked the most unlikely person to care about my shoes asked about them and was very intrigued by them when I told her about all the benefits. Though, I do have some friends that laugh and call me Aquawoman. (I have the blue/green sprints.) But I laugh back, and run faster than them, so it works out. Thanks for sharing, glad to know reactions are the same everywhere, and that others get it!

Sorry Honey, I said the only way I would EVER wear them is IF I were to start running. I’m not exactly in the “thinking about buying some” category. Secondly, you left off my other objection: they HURT my toes!!

You’re right – “try them before you knock them.” It’s the rare individual that doesn’t “get it” on actually trying VFFs for a spell. They’re just so dang comfortable. I just feel sorry for the people who don’t have feet that work with the “average” VFF fit (as in, those with outlier foot shapes). Hopefully VFFs will ultimately be popular enough that they can produce off sizes for these folks!

Thanks for sharing your experience. It is always interesting to see different people’s reactions and to watch them change over time (or not, as in the case of your heckling teacher friend). As FiveFingers become more “mainstream” I am sure we will see people swayed to our way of thinking.

i get similar reactions from folks on my VFF’s as well. i teach English at the high school level and thought that the students would make fun of me relentlessly and the staff would think they were cool. the exact opposite has been true: students think they rock (and are constantly asking me about them, wanting to get a pair, how is the running in them, etc.) and staff just won’t leave it alone. one teacher has made a point of making it a daily event to laugh and comment on ‘em.

and like you, i don’t care. haven’t worn regular shoes since October (and not planning on it any time soon).

They still look weird to me. I am a follower so I have to keep with the closed toe till 53.8 % of americans switch. Then I might switch or wait for 59.6% then I will for sure.
