The Office Sinks Lower, and the Crowd Goes Wild…..

Jim and Pam are getting married! Woo hoo! Oh wait, it also happened to be the most down-in-the-gutter episode to date. What a great way to detract from a beautiful thing like a wedding. I was hoping they could keep the crude humor to a minimum so as to highlight the special moment. Instead they made a point of glorifying anything that would dilute the sacredness of marriage. They dragged Pam’s wedding dress through the sewer.
Philippians 4:8 tells us to think on whatever is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, of good repute, etc. Well, the only thing that could have fit any of those descriptions in that show was the wedding but they did such a good job of trampling it with trash that it was hardly recognizable in the end.
Even though I could see what the writers thought was humor in the jokes and awkward situations, funny does not equal right or good. Since this seems to be the trend of the show, I feel it is time to reevaluate being part of The Office’s viewership. As much as I like the show and characters I grow increasingly tired of it (and other popular media) setting fire to the high standard that Christ calls us to and asking us to accept it as ok.
There is my rant. Go ahead, pile on the negative comments. I don’t mind standing alone, thinking that there is still something sacred about marriage.
