Obama's Nobel

I think I can I know Tricor medication that this Bupropion sr topic has Zocor cost been and Zyprexa 5mg - 60 pills will be beaten into the ground today and for the days and weeks to come but I feel the need to get my thoughts out there.  I don’t understand, in the slightest, why Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.  It makes no sense.  Keep in mind that he was nominated not two weeks after his inauguration.   He had done nothing then and still has done nothing yet to deserve such an award.  I have heard people’s defenses on this and mostly they go something like this one:

“It’s an award coming near the beginning of the first term of office of a relatively young president that anticipates an even greater contribution towards making our world a safer place for all.  It is an award that speaks to the promise of President Obama’s message of hope.”

-Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa

People are saying that it is because there is great hope for what he will do.  So, they are admitting that he has done nothing deserving of the prize yet.  Since when did we hand out awards for things not accomplished?

Do we look at students and say, “You seem like the type that will do well.  Here is your A, now live up to it”?  No!  That doesn’t happen.  We say, “You seem like the type that will do well.  If you live up to that potential you will have earned an A.”  Hope for an A does not mean you will get an A.  You have to earn it.

Or, take Michael Phelps as an example.  Leading up to the 2008 Olympics everyone said that he was projected to win each event he participated in.  He won the World Swimmer of the Year Award in 03, 04, 06, and 07.  What would people have said if the Olympic Committee awarded him his gold medals at the Olympic opening ceremonies, stating that he had such promise that the medals were his without competing?  There would have been outrage, and rightfully so.  This didn’t happen and he had to perform to earn those medals.

Neville Chamberlain went to Germany in 1938 and got a signed piece of paper (The Munich Agreement) and declared, “My good friends, for the second time in our history a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time.”  There was great hopes for peace in that time too.  But it didn’t happen because the promise of peace is NOT peace!

Just like the promise of a safer world is not a safer world.  Obama hasn’t brought us that yet.  I don’t think his policies will.  But if he does, I will be the first to stand up and congratulate him.  Then give him the Nobel Peace Prize.  Not before.

When someone like Ronald Regan who aided in the end of the Cold War didn’t receive a Nobel Peace Prize, why should Obama get one when he hasn’t done anything yet?  Please tell me if I am missing something here.
