Happy Old Year 2009

Old Year

Well folks, it is that time again.  Out with the old and in with the new.  2009 is done and gone, our actions (or inactions) sealed away forever by the sands of time.  The only thing we can change is what is to come.  So by all means look forward, make resolutions, and plan for the future.  I will join you in a moment.  But before I do I want to take a glance back at ol’ 2009 and remember some of the ways God has blessed my life during it.

  • We were fortunate enough to have the extra cash to put into our house again this year in the form of a new bathroom (last year was the fireplace). We put in a new tub and redid the walls of the tub area, new floor, new toilet, and new fixtures.  It also got a paint job by my beautiful and talented wife.  It turned out great!
  • This one is not a huge deal but it was one of the things that kicked off the year and it was a blast.  My favorite comedian, Brian Regan, came to town and we got to see him live.  If laughter is medicine then I recommend that you watch this guy.  He is hilarious!
  • This was a big year for our finances as well.  We went through a Dave Ramsey class and one of his big things is no debt.  Well we sold our truck and we are officially consumer debt free!  The only thing we have left is the house but that will have to wait.  One of the reasons we decided to sell the truck was so that we could put my Lacey back in school starting in 2010.  Exciting times.  The best part about it is that we will not have to incur any debt for her to finish, Lord willing.  That is the plan anyway.  Wish us luck!
  • There were many big things that happened this year, but the one that tops the cake was adding a new member to the family.  No, I don’t have any kids, but I do have a new Nephew!  Dalton Tyler Casey was born in early December, an early Christmas present as I see it.  I don’t know if I can adequately describe the feelings I felt when I saw him for the first time.   It was wonderful to see my brother and sister-in-law with him.  They make a beautiful family.  Welcome to the world Dalton.  More than anything else I pray you will come to know Jesus!
  • This was a big year of writing for me.  I have wanted to write a novel for years and I finally found that opportunity in National Novel Writing Month.  NaNoWriMo, as it is called to eliminate some syllables, is a contest against yourself to write fifty thousand words in the month of November.  Well, I did it!  50,000 words.  And the novel is only half way done.  I have at least another 50K to write before it is completed.  It is my goal to finish the first draft within the first three months of 2010.  Wish me luck!
  • My wife and I love to travel.  We don’t get to go as much as we want but we did get a good bit of traveling in this year.  We went on a Caribbean cruise in January of this year that was a blast!   And we got to go with some dear friends to Colorado.  All in one year.  The Colorado trip was pretty crazy.  We drove all night to get there, slept for a little bit, and then went non-stop for the next couple days.  This was a great year for traveling!
  • I love my wife.  The Lord has blessed me greatly and the longer we are married the more thankful I am for her.  We celebrated our third anniversary this year and I got to give her something she really wanted.  I took her to a Texas Ranger game and we stayed over night in a cool hotel.  It was a blast!  Lacey, you make every year better.  I love you!

Notables: Some of my favorite or most interesting books, games, and movies from the year.

And that is about it.  It has been a great year and I look forward to a new one.  Come on 2010!  What are some of the things that made 2009 a great year for you?

Brian
