Forks in the Road
In our daily walk with Christ we often tempted to sin. That sin comes in many disguises but it always comes down to choosing something over God. Even though the sin might be most directly against another person, it is ultimately an offense against God.
It helps me to visualize things in a way that is familiar to my everyday life. In this case I visualized these occurrences (temptations to sin) as forks in the road of our lives. We come to a place where the road we are on diverges; one leads north, the other leads south. We stop and look. To the south is a short road leading to what looks like pleasure (an idol). To the north is the path we are on if we have trusted Christ. It is the road that continues on toward God.
The choice is ours. Do we take the shorter road to temporal pleasure? Or do we continue on toward God and eternal reward? It is a testing of our faith. Do we really believe that pressing on toward God is better (as He promises it is)? Or do we disbelieve Him and pursue the quick fix?
As we are about to make our decision we hear a voice call out quietly, “Do you love Me?” Do you ignore that voice and the promise you say you believe and walk toward the idol? Or do you trust Him and walk in the way of righteousness?
The choice is yours and mine. This is what it comes down to. Do we love the one who created us and rescued us more? Or do we love a quick pleasure more? We know the truth, but do we believe it? Which path do you take?
Brian
