Fellowship, Food, and Fly Fishing

Before this Terazosin side Meclizine hci effects in men gets too Pantoprazole far in Axis and allies board game the past for me to remember details I want to write about the Men’s Fly Fishing trip the men from our church took at the end of October.  I don’t know if I can say enough about what it meant for me.  Obviously it was great to get away from life in the fast lane and to learn some about fly fishing, but this trip was so much more than that.

The Lord really worked in my heart.  As I am sure many newly married guys do, I really struggle with how to lead my wife spiritually.  I know what it looks like for me to have a consistent walk with the Lord but add another person to the mix and I had no clue what to do.  As evidenced by a recent post here, that has changed some.  I do not claim to be an expert on this topic but the Lord gave me several small things to be obedient in to start with.  Not only did He show me these things, He convicted me that I needed to follow through and do them.  James 1:22-25 speaks to this.

Another great thing to experience was listening to a group of Godly men talk.  We spent our evenings around a campfire talking about what it meant to be a Godly man.  Struggles and victories.  These two things alone made the trip worth it, but there is more.

I don’t know if I an adequetly explain to you how food cooked over a camp fire can be so good.  It rivaled some of the best restaurants I have been to.  I am being completely serious.  We ate like kings for a week.  We had everything from asparagus to stuffed jalepenos to steak.  It was truly amazing.

The fly fishing part of the trip started a little slow but by the end of the week I was throughly enjoying myself.  It might have something to do with the fact that I didn’t catch anything until Thursday, who knows.  There is something about fly fishing that separates itself from other fishing I have done.  There is much knowledge to be had about it and I feel that I have only scraped the surface.  The first day was spent learning how to tie knots and what the different pieces of equipment were for.  Fortunately for us first-timers there were plenty of people to teach us what was what and how to use it.

In the middle of the week several of us decided to take a break from fishing and decided to take a hike to some Indian ruins.  The Indian ruins turned out to be a little hut on top of a big rock.  A look out of sorts.  We made it to this point and then we decided to turn the hike into a climb.  We made our way up the face of the plateau to the top.  It took us some time but it was worth it.  A very manly thing to do.  The next step was finding our way down.  Usually going down is easier than up but the decent was just as challenging.

The last day of fishing came and I still hadn’t caught anything yet.  Fortunately I had some help.  Kevin, our pastor, is apparently the best fly fisherman there is and Matt and I were with him.  We finally found a spot and the fish pretty much started jumping out of the water.  I caught seven fish that morning one of them being a 22″ rainbow trout.  Apparently that is a big fish.

Everything about this trip made it worth going.  Life with no cell phone (and subsequently, no watch) along with great food cooked over a campfire is something everyone needs to experience occasionally.  Fellowship with men like this is something every man should take part in.  But all of this would have been for nothing with out a closer walk with the Lord. I definitely left with that and I will be back again.
