Blogging + NaNoWriMo = Less Blogging
I am a man a few words. Some of you may argue this point but I am sticking to it. I don’t like to say something that I haven’t thought through which usually means that I am quiet about something but then, once I am done processing, it all comes out at once. So I guess you could say that I am a man of few spoken words but many thoughts. I think that is one of the reasons I am so drawn to this medium. When I am ready my thoughts can come tumbling out. Like right now. And also, like right now, the thoughts that come out have nothing to do with what I am writing about.
As most of you know by now (There have been a couple post here about this as well as on Facebook and Twitter) I am participating in National Novel Writers Month. The idea behind NaNoWriMo is to produce lots of content very quickly to the tune of 50,000 words in a month. More writing, less editing (this is hard for me). This translates into 1,667 words per day of novel writing. I am sure that full time writers produce at this level but I am not used to this.
My goal has been 2,000 words per day so that I could finish before the deadline. I have been able to exceed this the first two days. We will see how I hold up. I have put up a progress meter on the right hand side of the blog so you can keep up how I am doing.
Since I am writing so much for NaNoWriMo I am not sure how much time I will have for blogging. My attention has been fixed on writing story and not so much writing for my blog. I hope I can continue both but I am thinking that my blog production will give way some to my novel production.
I only have so many words and I feel like I am stretching my limit. I hope that by the end of the month I will have a very good start on my first book, be in the habit of writing every day, and still still having fun with it. I have this idea in my head that I would like to write for a living. This is a great way to find out.
All that to say, I will try to keep the blog updated, but my primary writing focus will be my book.
Brian
