My sister Caroline has a great blog. If you haven’t looked at it you should. She put up a thought by Beth Moore that goes something like this.
“If you want to be set apart in this world as we are called to be, just stop complaining! Stop grumbling about your job, your spouse, your dinner, etc. The world will notice VERY quickly that something is different!”
This should be something that marks every Christian’s life. It is not that we have less to complain about, it is that we understand that every event that happens in our life has a purpose for our good. So, actually, it is because we have less to complain about. The reason people complain is that something in life doesn’t go exactly the way they want. When we understand that Christ is working everything for our good that takes away our reason to complain about events in life that most people would see as something to complain about.
When we, as believers in Christ, complain it is as if we are saying, “God, I don’t trust that you will work this seemingly bad situation into something good for me.” Please don’t misunderstand me. This is a large difference between talking about hard things in life and grumbling and complaining about them. By all means, share with someone what you are walking through but don’t let it turn into grumbling.
As a believer in Christ complaining should not be something that marks our life. Instead we should have an attitude of joy and praise to our Lord for His saving grace and providence in our lives. He has brought us to where we are and he is faithful to work everything that happens in our life for our good.
