2008 Bejing Olympics
Aug 11
I don’t know about the rest of you, but the Summer Olympics are something that I really enjoy. So as they began this weekend I tuned in as much as I could. I really enjoy the swimming and gymnastics. When I watch these swimmers I am amazed at their speed and endurance. I get in a pool every Wednesday and swim laps (I try to) and I can barely keep from swallowing gallons of water. And once I have swam around 50 meters my heart is going crazy and my lungs are on fire. My cardio needs some work. Granted, the Olympic swimmers probably practice everyday but I still have huge respect for them. I probably won’t be qualifying for any swimming event ever.
I don’t know if any of you saw the 4×100 men’s swimming relay Sunday night, but if you didn’t, you missed out. Let me say that you should probably find a way to watch it before reading this paragraph unless you already know the outcome. This was the most exciting event thus far for me. I was out of my seat! The French were the heavy favorites. It was being said the the American team was a long shot to win gold. Apparently the French had even been talking it up as well. Ah, how pride comes before the fall. After the second leg the American were in the lead by a little bit but in the third leg the French overtook the Americans. The announcers were saying that that was it. The anchor leg for the French was the world record holder and the Americans anchor was a three time Olympian (in other words he was a little older). Well, our guy ran down the French guy from behind to win by just hundredths of a second. Amazing! If you didn’t see this race you should find a way to watch it.
Another thing to think about. This would be a great time to pray for any Christian athletes that are in China right now. Spreading the news of Jesus is not allowed in China. You cannot go to China announcing that you are a missionary. So this is a great opportunity for those that are going over there to spread the good news of Christ with those they come in contact with. Pray for boldness that, given the opportunity, they would be ready to give an account of their Savior. Pray also for the safety of all that are there.
